After different feasibility studies, the client has decided to add two levels to his office headquarter and to renew entirely the external envelope. He also has decided to keep the building in activity during the building works. An international architectural competition has been organised. The brief was to propose a new image for the office headquarter and to integrate innovative sustainable solutions aiming for the Minergie label.
The addition of 2 entire levels of 400m2 each allowed the implementation of a landscaped terrace on the roof. The complete refurbishment of the façade and the mechanical and electrical elements has improved the daylighting on the existing levels. The reception area has also been reorganised accordingly. The underground level has been enlarged to fit the new plant room. The garden has been redesigned to match the new image of the building.
The main concept of this kinetic architecture designed by Giovanni Vaccarini has been to work on the façade thickness. More than 2600 glazed slabs with different heights and widths were implemented on a sequential rhythm. These glazed slabs are screen printed with a specific motif to ensure glare protection for the users. It also improves the daylight penetration into the building. At night a made to order LED lighting has be developed to valorise the façade.
